Madrid Airport or ‘Madrid Barajas Airport’ as it is also known is the main airport that services the capital city of Spain. The airport is also known in Spanish as: ‘Aeropuerto Internacional de Madrid-Barajas’.

Getting To And From Madrid Airport

There are many transfer options available to passengers landing at Madrid Airport and getting to and from the airport is very easy. There are transfer options to suit all requirements and budgets and the following list are some of the more popular choices of transfers from Madrid airport.

Public Transport

There are several forms of public transport that are available to passengers from the airport.

Madrid Metro: The Madrid Metro is one of the more popular options with passengers, as it provides a quick and cheap way to reach the city centre. Metro line number 8 connects passengers from the airport to the centre of Madrid and the journey time is approximately 15 minutes.

Bus: There are several buses that run from the airport to the city centre and they all take different routes stopping at different locations. There are bus numbers 200 and 101 which collect passengers from various terminals.

Bus Number 200: Stops at Terminals 1,2,3 & 4

This is a regular bus service run by EMT that connects passengers from the airport to the main bus station in Madrid (Madrid ‘Avenida de América station’) and then from Madrid back to the airport. The journey time by bus from Madrid airport to the centre of Madrid is approximately 40, depending on traffic. You can purchase your ticket onboard the bus but the only form of payment is cash.

Bus Number 101: Stops at Terminals 1,2 & 3

This service connects passengers from the airport to the Canillejas Metro station and from there you can find a large number of connection to a wide range of other destinations.

There is also a bus service that links passengers to the main railway station in Madrid (Renfe’s Atocha Station).

The Madrid Airport Express

The Madrid Airport Express bus service connects passengers with the city of Madrid and runs 24 hours a day every 15 minutes throughout the day and then every 35 minutes during the night. The Madrid Airport Express take approximately 40 minutes (depending on traffic) to reach the city centre.

Car Hire Madrid Airport

There are several car hire companies that are located inside the terminal buildings and these all offer competitive prices. Car hire is popular with passengers travelling further afield that the city centre as it provides them with the freedom to choose their own schedules.

Taxis:

There are many taxis available from outside the main arrivals terminal and the taxi ranks are clearly signposted. The taxis at the airport operate on a meter and charge for every klm travelled. The official airport taxis are white with a red stripe (at the time of writing) and have the local council coat of arms on the car. Always ensure you catch a taxi from the official taxi rank outside the Terminal buildings and always ensure that the driver has started the meter before you begin your journey.

Shops At The Airport

There are a wide range of shops located throughout the airport Terminals and these range from Food outlets, Duty Free shops, Fashion retailers, Florist’s, Gifts shops, Pharmacies, Tobacconist’s, Entertainment stores and many more.

Bars, Cafeterias And Restaurants

In each Terminal there are a large number of bars, cafes and restaurants that all sell a wide range of cuisines and beverages. The majority of these are open throughout the day for passengers to use whilst in the airport.

There are ‘Lost Property’ desks in the Arrivals Halls of both Terminals 1 & 4 and these are open from 07.00 – 22.00.
